Summer Theme: Enjoy and Defend God's Good Creation

The theme for summer worship at Florence Church of the Brethren Mennonite is "Enjoy and Defend God's Good Creation."  Peak oil and climate change shape our present anxiety and our future crises on planet earth.  Around the globe and in River Country we seek wisdom and courage for living these times with integrity.  And we know that neither individual life style changes nor government and corporate changes will transform our world fast enough for both known and unknown futures.  As communities we must find new ways of living together and fostering resilience.

At Florence Church of the Brethren Mennonite, a little church in a little country church building, we believe little things, little people make a difference.  Our children's garden is part of summer Sunday school -- God's Good Creation.  The opening of worship and a 45 minute interactive class are provided each week for children.  In these photos four generations are working together, passing on skills and love of gardening and tending the earth.

Join with us in exploring and re-reading the Christian tradition regarding our relationship with God's Good Creation.  In the past our tradition has contributed to destructive thinking regarding human "use" of the planet.  Now, in light of the interdependence of all things, we must repent -- change our thinking and behaving.  Through the practices of Thanksgiving, Contemplation and Action we hope to be changed and to make a change in the world around us.  Bring your joy in creation, your wisdom and passion, and your commitments to action and join us.

The first Sunday of the month we share a potluck meal following worship.  All are always welcome at Florence.  For more information, write to Pastor Nina Lanctot at
